Churches nationwide is starting a 40-day fast today, ending on September 16, Malaysia Day. J asked me to do it with her (we be accountability partner for each other) and while I was kinda excited about it, I was also wary about my ability to sustain it.. cos the sanguine in me is always game for a roaring start but is prone to fizzling out boo hoo! But you know what, by God's grace, I can do this!

We're following one of the plans recommended by her church (with minor tweaks on my end).. My plan is that every day I am going to skip a meal (lunch, mostly), read one chapter from the Bible (we've decided to cover the minor prophets), and pray for 30 minutes. I might vary that a bit later, but we'll see how. I actually don't know how I'm going to do the prayer bit knowing how terrible I am at it, but I willlll tryyyyyyyy.. Holy Spirit please help me haha!

Okay, here we go! ^_^

Malaysian passport renewal

I left my house at 6:55am and with the Raya crowd still sweetly slumbering in their respective hometowns, there was no traffic on the road and I reached Home Ministry Complex in Hartamas by 7:10am. Parking was aplenty, and FREE, and I got a space right at the doorstep. As I entered the building, I asked the guard where I should go, and he gestured and said "go up the escalator and it's on the right side of the building". Thanked him and followed the directions. In case I heard him wrongly, there were signs all the way - I'd be an idiot to miss it (but just to be sure, I checked with the person in front of me, as there were some queues around the floor for other processes as well).

I was in line by 7:15am and I'd expected to be there til 8am (the official opening hour), but by 7:30am the glass doors opened yay! I was probably the 10th in line but typical of Malaysians, there were some who jumped queue. Grr. Got to the number collection counter and was greeted by a chirpy officer. Told him that I was there for passport renewal and he gave me a number: 1020.

A short wait (25mins?) later, my number was called. I only needed to answer a few questions, smile for the camera, scan my thumbprints, and I was done in 5mins. Waited another 25mins to make payment and was informed by the cashier that it would take about an hour, and since that wasn't too long a wait and I had my book with me, I decided to just sit around until they call my number again.

I must have zoned out because by the time I looked up at the digital giliran display, it was calling for numbers after mine. I thought my application was delayed so I waited for a while more before approaching the Kaunter Serahan. There was another guy who was also there and had missed his number (he went out for brekkie so it's understandable, but me! -_-). We asked the officer, and she said that indeed we'd missed our numbers but I suppose it's not uncommon so she just asked us to wait while she went to get our passports. She said that my number was actually called less than half an hour after I made the payment. Oof! Anyway, I checked that everything was accurate and in place, and it was, except that I wish my face didn't turn out so chubby.. oh well. I was done and out of the place by 9:20am (to think that I could have left before 9!)

The entire process was efficient and painless and the officers were helpful and friendly, so I just wanna say well done to the Immigration Department! :)

The Tiger of Jelutong, the venerable Karpal Singh, died from a car accident this morning. He was 74. His death is a great loss for the nation.

It seems like he's been around since forever, since I was a little girl. He was always in the news, lambasted by the ruling coalition and the mainstream media for everything he did, but he remained steadfast in his fight for justice. Truly an admirable and respectable man.

RIP, Mr Karpal. You've fought a good fight. Thank you for all you've done for the country, for us.

it didn't happen.

I can't remember the last time I cried myself to sleep, but last night I did. :(

with Lils ^_^
So the Pakatan Rakyat coalition did not win the elections, no thanks to the scheming ways of Barisan Nasional. This whole thing is hard to swallow, not just because of the loss -- I would have reluctantly conceded defeat if the elections were held in a clean and fair manner -- but this! I was and still am very angry and very disappointed, and just very, very sad.

I cannot accept the underhanded ways the elections was run. It was rigged from the start (perhaps taking a leaf from this article), but really, the elections were a farce, a mockery of democracy.

And post-election, the first thing the PM did was to blame the Chinese? Srsly, wth. Will they ever get it, that it's not about race? Stop dividing us! This card is stale, the horse is long dead! All the doublespeak and hypocrisy just stinks! To this so-called government formed not by consensus but by corruption, you are a joke. I hate you for what you have done. I hate your filthy ways. But I believe justice will be served. Just you wait.

And I don't think I'll ever understand how people can stand on the side of blatant corruption and sell their souls for mere dollars (I'm talking about the so-called educated crowd, not the ones who don't know any better). How do they live it down? How could they ever answer to our nation's forefathers, and to their children's children?

I have nothing else to say. Still in mourning mode. Will pick myself up eventually. I know I've done all that I could: I have no regrets. And straining to look at the bright side, not all's lost: we won more seats this time, we won the popular votes, an unprecedented number of voters came out to vote, more participation from the rakyat in the electoral process. (Oh you can read my current favorite piece on the whole episode). So it's still good. We've lost the battle, but not the war. This is just the beginning. Just you wait.

with WF and "Nurul Izzah" ^_^ (she won! that girl rocks!)
Oh btw, the session where I volunteered as polling agent went smoothly (thank God!). I was at SK Bangsar, which is under the Lembah Pantai constituency, together with Lils and WF. My duty slot was from noon to 2pm - I didn't mind an extra shift but I guess they had enough people.

And in the classroom, although we hardly spoke, I had enjoyed working with the SPR team and the BN representative in my classroom, even the cop who was stationed outside the hall. There were no untoward incidents, no illegal foreign voters (honestly I don't know how I would have handled them if they appeared at the classroom with their temporary ICs). I'm slightly emboldened by the experience, and will definitely volunteer to do this again come GE14 (including counting agent duties!)

the bright side #3

Malala Yousafzai
I only have one item for this entry this week: The 2013 TIME 100 Most Influential People in The World.

Most of these accounts are really inspiring, of mostly ordinary folks who have done extraordinary feats under various circumstances, or some people who are just really good at what they do.

Some of my personal favorites on this list:

As for Kim Jong Un, I can sorta understand his inclusion in the list, but mm, I wonder what he's up to. The internet has been making fun of him of lately, I just hope it wouldn't end up badly. Btw this is interesting too, from the list: a quick look at the three power couples who made the list: Mr and Mrs Obama (Barack and Michelle), Mr and Mrs Xi (Jinpeng and Peng Liyuan) and Mr and Mrs Carter (Jay-Z and Beyonce). Wonder what that is like!

Anyway, Sunday is looming. I can't wait it to be over. I don't want to keep getting get into silent rage reading about the shenanigans of the current government in trying to ensure victory (temporary citizenship to foreign workers? Which brilliant mind came up with that?!). It's so blatant that it's farcical. Deep breath, deep breath. RAWWRRRRRRR!

agent #51773

There is so much I want to write about this coming 13th elections, but I think I'm being overwhelmed by the overload of information on FB. But I'm praying fervently for a clean and fair election. For justice and mercy to be instated. For change of government. The ruling parties have pretty much sucked the nation dry in the 55 years they have been in power, and I hope they won't get the mandate to continue to pilfer us for another five years.

Anyway, I've volunteered to be a Polling Agent, and I'm pretty much freaking out. My main fear is that I would fail in my duties (but I was assured that my presence in the room is already 50% of the battle won). It shouldn't be this hard, if the playing field is level. But it's not. The current gov is pulling all stops in ensuring that they hang on to whatever they have left. Blardy thieves and scoundrels!

But, this is it. My heart says, Ini kalilah.

so much for my "unlimited" imagination.

LH's said in the video that this John Lennon song is his all-time favorite, and he ended the performance remarking he wished he'd written it. well, i can't agree with half the words of the song but i can appreciate its sentiment about removing borders that divide mankind. (i know it's a hugely popular song, but it's not "up there" for me la.. well, even Lennon had admitted that "Imagine — an absolute equality created by the dissolution of governments, borders, organized religion and economic class — was "virtually the Communist Manifesto.""[via] so yeah, erm, not my favorite ideology)

perhaps there's a little envy in me that LH's not lost his idealistic outlook, because I certainly have! let's face it, the world will not get better. the Bible said that "in the last days, people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—having a form of godliness but denying its power." I don't need imagination to know that this is true.

/random rant/ anddd this just in, what do you know, the US Senate blocked gun control reform. seriously, i don't get what's wrong with these people. the Senate is a stupid (i know, what a "mature" choice of word right) joke and a failed system. "the world's greatest deliberative body" my @$$. /end rant/

so, the world's not getting better. BUT it's not all bleak. we've seen beauty in ashes. we are still at war, inside and out. for every battle lost, there'll be one won. we will celebrate every small victory. there's hope. and in the end, everything will be made right.

this morning

10:15AM
right, so the nation waits with bated breath as to the date of the elections - the Election Committee is convening to set the date. i think all this waiting is just a waste of everyone's time. just fix the date and be done with it! if you don't have the confidence, then don't wait until the last minute to get things right.

10:40AM
click on a David Tao video of his performance in Singapore. at 3:10, he introduces his band, which basically consists of members from Leehom's previous and current tours: Jingle on the bass and Jamie Wilson on the electric guitar, David Tan on vocals and acoustic guitar, Brendan Buckley on drums and the music director and keyboardist Kheng Long. honestly i think david's vocal chops is so-so when he sings live, esp when he hits the higher notes, but his songs more than make up for that :) i love them! oh yeah i think we spoke abt this before.

11:05AM
looping Hillsong United's Mercy Mercy. song of my season. arrest my heart from its reckless path.

12:35PM
the 5th it is! :)

Lord, you kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

legend.

Okay I've lost count of the number of times I've watched that video of Leehom singing Getaran Jiwa. I love it to bits. Sigh~

Amidst this, I naturally went wiki-ing the late Tan Sri P Ramlee. I realised that I didn't know much about him. Sure I've seen a couple of his movies when I was reeeallly young, and have heard some of his songs over the years, and who could forget Sheila Majid's Lagenda tribute? But I'd wanted to know what was it that garnered him such recognition, a national icon?

His page was surprisingly sparse, but there was a reference to a documentary commissioned by History Channel a few years back, and again, thanks to Youtube, I found the 90-minute video (embedded below) which chronicled his life, the rise and fall. Yay!

Note: Full spoiler ahead :)

It was an interesting show, there were interview footage from earlier, and they also interviewed some people who were close to him (it looks like a number of them have also passed away since), such as the sister of his wife Saloma, his son Nasir, and other people in the industry. He'd lived in tough time, but he rose to the top of his game and was his studio's (Shaw Organisation) blue-eyed boy. Everything he touched turned into gold. He was a multi-talented entertainer: he wrote and directed screenplays, and he wrote hundreds of songs which were very popular at his times. His accomplishment and international recognition were well-deserved - his movies constantly won him regional awards.

Of course this made him enemies with the other more senior directors, and they ostracized him. Also because they had media clout, P Ramlee's news were practically blacked out. Still he persisted. Now I scantly remember what was the reason he left Singapore to come back to Malaysia (too much politicking that he couldn't handle, was it?) And that was the beginning of his downfall.

For whatever reason, he was rejected, ridiculed and scorned by his very own! They called him a has-been, they mocked his work, they unfairly criticized him. I really felt terrible for him. Still he soldiered on, trying to make do with the old equipment and untrained staff, which were a far cry from his endless budget, state-of-the-art and skilled workers environment back in Singapore. Everything he did was panned by the critics, and he never got back to the level he once held.

And it continued to go downhill from there. His music company severed ties with him, there were no new jobs that came in.. eventually he had to take up odd jobs to put food on his family's table. It was heartbreaking. I don't think I could ever know why his "friends" turned his back against him. Or why they were unaware of his plight (apparently he never sought help and kept his problems to himself).

I had thought that perhaps he was not a nice person, but everyone who was interviewed said that he was also generous to a fault, and he never knew how to say No. His sis-in-law said that people would often come up to him with sob stories, and he'd give every sen he had on him, to the disbelief of his wife. If such was this man, and I can imagine how some of his so-called "friends" sucking him dry.

His last days were desolate. He died a penniless man. Shaw Organisation never released the rights to his movies, so despite the thousands (millions?) that he's made for the studio, he earned nothing from there. But just as he had the chance to shine again (another famous actress from that era who was mentored by him, Sarimah, decided to let him direct her next movie. But before he had to chance to sign the contract the next day, he died suddenly of a heart attack, at 44 (so young!)..

His death shocked the nation, "and a sense of collective guilt began to spread nationwide, as prior to his death he had been discredited and rejected by his own nation, citing that he was a "has been" and that his songs and film were no longer marketable." (wiki) Most of his national recognition and titles came post-posthumously, and I echo the narrator who said that it was, "too little, too late". Sigh.

I was rather shaken and even teared watching the last bit of the documentary. I think it was the pains of the betrayal that got to me. And all those politicking that went about had him fighting uphill battles all the time. I still can feel the dull ache in my heart thinking about what he had gone through! :'( Maybe it was a different time, when men were too proud to talk about their problems and hence NOBODY thought to ask or help.

In his illustrous career spanning 20+ years, he had acted and directed in 66 films, and written about 360 songs, and his works had come to define the golden era of Malay silver screen. I might never come to a place to fully appreciate what he has done, but I know without a doubt that he's truly a national icon.

kaulah satu satunya di antara berjuta, insan teristimewa
patah tak tumbuh lagi, hilang belum berganti, kerana kau tersendiri
kau kebanggaan kita, kau budayawan bangsa
engkau lagenda
you're one in a million, a unique individual
you're irreplacable because you are one of a kind
you're our pride, you're the nation's humanist
you are legend

the thrill in my soul

So Leehom posted another video of his cover of P Ramlee's Getaran Jiwa on his official youtube channel. This was taken from a closer point to the stage (close-up yay!), and I've been listening to it the whole of today (occasionally slotting in the just-as-wonderful original recording in between).

I wish he'd do a proper recording of this timeless tune and put it up on iTunes (or for free! :)(and LH, if you every do, let me help you with the pronunciation/phrasing okay? :) cos like I've said, yours were mostly spot-on, but some minor tweaks are needed) ^___^

Leehom's Music Man II 火力全开 (part deux) in Genting Highlands

I'm BACK.

Please be forewarned that this is going to be a longgggg posts with lotsa poor quality photos. Long because because I am fresh off my Leehom Lent fast so all my pent-up thoughts and emotions from the past 45 days shall be generously expressed here. And lo-res photos because I was seated at a distance too far for my not-so-trusty iPhone 4 lens to cope. Also, the word awesome is repeatedly like 1,000 times here, because it just was. And my brain's refusing to think of other words--I've only had six hours of sleep in the past two nights but that's another story.

So where do I begin? This was my first pop concert ever (I've only went to three other concerts in my life -- and they were all rock and all Switchfoot's)(random shout-out to Jon woot!) and this was my first Leehom concert ever as a die-hard fan (I was just a nominal fan last year March when he kicked off his MM2 tour in KL)(How things have changed!)(How time flies!) And thanks to Youtube, I wasn't completely clueless as to what it was going to be like hehe!

The venue for this year's concert was Genting Highlands' Arena of Stars, a popular choice for many performers with modest followings hence I thought that it's too small a venue for a star of his caliber. He would not have needed to tire himself and his team out and save everyone else the travel distance to GH had he just gone and book a stadium venue again. He can fill one up easily *snap snap* But one good point about the AoS auditorium is that we could still get a good view of him from the back, and the chilly hot-coffee-mug-in-palms weather was a welcome respite from the KL heat!

The concert lasted about 2.5 hours -- it started at about 8:45 (no opening act :) and ended at 11:15pm, one might say like clockwork. And it was, as you would have guessed: AWESOME! I had wanted to give him and the team a standing ovation at the end, but I guess that was not theater. Hehe.. Okay let's get this cerita started with.. me! :D

Left pic was taken at home before the concert. The other, after. Look at that stick in my hand. There's a really  awesome story about that so stay tuned to find out! :)

Btw I've not worn this tee for a while now, but when I saw it while rummaging through my clothes the other day, i knew instantly that this wld be my concert tee!! And the reason is...... hahahaha! Here, watch this. I'm not going give this away so easily if you don't know it. La la la..

View of the stage from our RM290 seats which directly faced the stage. Not bad at all! Leehom looked at least a good 5-inch tall, and I could make out his expressions and all (under good lighting haha!). The seats in row right in front of ours were RM100 more expensive O_O -- thumbs up to the fan club for getting us good early bird seats! :)

A pair of what is a concert equivalent of the vuvuzela. They were noisy when you hit them together and definitely added to the atmosphere! They came free at every seat courtesy of xpax, but somebody took mine so Ww and I just shared a pair - we had no use for them the rest of the night! The fans were true cheerleaders, the place kept erupting into thunderous "applauses" way before the concert started. When it ended, everyone started popping these at once, and it sounded like a firework was taking place in the hall itself! :)

A plastic folder courtesy of Seiko. Yes, I can so imagine myself plonking into the seat in front of my CEO and dropping this folder in front him. not. Hahahaha.. To the shelf you go! To be honest, I have always preferred him scruffy and laid-back in tee and sweat pants than him in designer clad. It's more real and relatable, if you know what I mean. But yes, being an eye candy in well-cut suits once is a while doesn't hurt at all! :)

Enjoying the cool genting air before the show with WW, with a couple of toffee latte from coffee bean. WW was pretending to enjoy her coffee with eyes closed. But she didn't have to. We were pleasantly surprise that the drink was delish (I'm not a fan of toffee)(or caramel).

Okay, onto the show!

This was the opening act. The show had just started with a bang! Literally. :) There was no tank (as he had had in his previous stadium gigs) but there explosives and mini fireworks. I think it's a testament to his vocal prowess that with all those dancing and prancing, he didn't show any sign if he was out of breath! He's the only artist whose live shows I would actually watch on youtube. He's just that good!

Yup, his impeccable showmanship is what we pay top dollars to see. And he didn't disappoint. Every note was hit right in the head (to this untrained ear) and that strong clear voice sustaining with nary a crack throughout 150 minutes of high energy show. I could see the joy in his face just doing what he loves. And that joy was infectious.

Anyway, the following are the other photos i took that night from my seat. These were the best my iPhone could muster, but fret not! I found this site. Please head over for a glorious HD photo ogle fest. You're welcome. ;) Let me just post two photos here from there so you can have an idea of what are there.

So Leehom had two guest performers that night. The first was a random Youtuber (Najwa Latiff) who covered his song 你不知道的事and ta-dah -- overnight fame! :) What's interesting is that she's Malay (she posted a photo of her and LH below) which again goes to show how far reaching his work is, cutting across various nationalities (I won't be surprise if he has an Eskimo fan!) and how his songs despite or rather, due to their seeming simplicity, could touch and affect people's life.

Case in point, later on in the show, he showed a clip from World Vision of which he's an ambassador. In the video, he was visiting Sierra Leone (this was a few years back) and there he met a young girl who was sponsored by someone in Taiwan, and that girl shared with him a letter from her sponsor, part of it which went something like "I would like to share a song with you and hope that it would encourage you" and the sponsor proceeded to write out the lyrics of one of Leehom's songs (I couldn't catch which one it was). I was so touched! To think of the odds something like this could happen! It's this kind of awesomeness I associate him with. :) I know I tend to have gripes with the simplicity of his lyrics (for someone who can't even string a long sentence in Chinese I sure had the gall to make that comment!)... but it's always the simple that cuts through the callous and the complex, right? Back to Najwa, she must have impressed him quite a bit so he'd asked her to perform with him. 1,000 brownie points for fan service! :D

Once they were done with the song, he remarked, "Isn't it interesting to hear a Malay girl sing a Chinese song? What about if a Chinese singer does a Malay a number?" I quickly said to Ww that I hope he would not be doing the done-to-death cop-out of a song Rasa Sayang that all non-Malaysian artists seem too favor, and before I knew it, he was singing the first line of Getaran Jiwa. And that was it.

I melted right there and then.

I practically turned into a puddle at my seat. I'd love the song before this, but this brought the love another notch up. I was soooo excited I couldn't get any words out, and I just wish that I could somehow physically absorb every note of that song. His pronunciation was spot-on for most part (haha) but that tremolo in his voice was... gasp, like a tuning fork that's just been struck and I was the glass which molecules were vibrating violently at the its frequency (that was the image in my head). Argh... I still couldn't find the words to describe how I felt. It was just... pure bliss!

Check out the Youtube vid below (thankfully someone had the clear mind to record it!) I took the liberty to translate the song (it's below this photo and the embedded vid)(yet another proof of how amazing the internet is -- anything can happen!)(pick me next, Leehom! :)

Getaran Jiwa by P. Ramlee

getaran jiwa melanda hatiku
there's a thrill in my soul surging in my heart
tersusun nada, irama dan lagu
an arrangement of tone, melody and music

walau hanya sederhana, tetapi tak mengapa
although it's not much, but it's okay
moga dapat membangkitkan, sedarlah kamu wahai insan
i hope it awakens you, oh fellow men

tak mungkin hilang irama dan lagu
the melody and song would not fade away
bagaikan kumbang sentiasa bermadu
like a promiscuous beetle (lit.)(lol!)
bagaikan kembang sentiasa bermadu
like a nectar-rich flower

andai di pisah lagu dan irama
if the song is separated from its melody
lemah tiada berjiwa... hampa.
i'd be weak, without a soul, let down.

Leehom's second guest artists were none other than some Homaniacs fan club members. Okay, how do you say this word without dripping with envy: JEALOUS! hehehe but i was happy for them :) I love it when dreams come true, even if it's not mine! :D He got the girls to sing a song with him, and with that, he's endeared himself to them for 3 generations to come. Yea, their grandkids' kids would hear of the time great-grandma shared the stage with the inimitable Mr Wang. Le sigh~ 10,000 brownie points for fan service!

Okay quick confession session: this song 愛,因爲在心中 is my LEAST favorite of all his tracks. I can appreciate the sentimentality (the song was penned by a group of fans, and he included it in his album), but erm sorry, it's too corny for me! /end confession/ okay, quick daydreaming session: if i could do a duet with him, I would have a tough time choosing which song to go with cos he has soooo many.. but I'd probably go with... my all-time favorite 花田错 :) ... or 竞争对手 (I'd just do the chorus cos the verse is a bit too fast for my tongue)(pick me, pick me! =) /end daydream/

That's Brendan the drummer on the right. As any drummer on this stage should be, he was awesome. Leehom sure knows how to pick them. B is known as Shakira's (yes, the mononymous petite bombshell) drummer so you know dia bukan calang-calang orangnya. So whenever Leehom left the stage, I'd shift my attention to B. There's just something about whacking the drums or watching people doing it that's so mesmerising. ^_^ (I miss my old worship team as I thought of this!) Anyway, B has a Youtube channel where he posts vids on himself at the drums during rehearsals, so if you don't mind hearing drums above the other instruments, head over here..

\
left: erhu and right: violin

At this point, I was so proud and delighted when I realised that I could sing along to most of Leehom's songs. That's the best part about attending any show: knowing the words to songs just push the enjoyment factor up by a thousand! Hahaha.. as for me, given that I've been listening to him for a good long year, I should know them by heart right? Still, *pats self* hehehehe!

This was an interesting acapella medley that he did with a group of singers comprising.. he and a few of himselves (haha magic)! You need amazing sense of timing to pull this off! I've seen this on Youtube before, but nothing beats watching it live! :)

the aftermath: super tired but super pumped

And just like that, the show ended. There was not a moment of dullness and so we didn't realise that 2.5 hours has past! He gave the obligatory encore (including a few acapella numbers where he got the audience to sing along).. He also took out a pretty battered piece of paper from his pocket which had a list of people to thank, and you could tell that he was genuinely grateful.. I love that genuineness in him.. and it's good to be grateful! :)

After that, I think I fell into a daze. We were definitely elated and very high. But I had a mission: you see, I made him a card (it's from myself and my two other ardent fellow fans, D &S :). And because I'm really proud of it, I'm gonna show it off here :D And also because I didn't manage to get it to him, despite efforts of having to menebalkan my muka and asking at least 6 random strangers who look like they might be on his team who would do me the favor.. My last resort was to actually throw it onto the stage but we got kicked out before I managed to. Looking back, I don't see what the big deal was to get the card to him, other than the fact that I made it. But I was so consumed with that mission that I... okay, story after the photos.. :)

Disclaimer: If you are not a fan, you will not get what's going here.. but every element and every word was selected with for a reason. I'd totally understand though if the whole thing goes over your head :)

Check out this video to see how I've adapted its rap section and made it our (me and the girls) story.

Check out this video from where I grabbed the lyrics from the song "You're a song in my heart"

So yeah, I was saying... I was asking around for anyone I thought would help. It must have been the adrenaline, because otherwise I'd never have done he talking-to-stranger thing. We stayed as long as we cld before we were kicked out of the hall because they had to commence cleaning and preparing the place for the next day's show... So while we were moping around outside the hall, who should exit the hall and pass our way but..... BRENDAN BUCKLEY ladies and gentlemen! *cue frenzy scream* -_-

Hellooooo Brendan!! D and I thought that he and LH could pass off as brothers.

I did not expect him to still be there or that he'd just walk pass but there he was! Annnnd I can't believe it now, but instead of talking to him about him, I ASKED HIM ABOUT THE CARD. Looking back, I just wanna kick myself for my insolence. There he was, and the first thing I asked him was if he could help me pass the card to LH. No, I didn't ask. I PESTERED him. OMG slap me! He nicely declined and I was like "okayyy." Then I told him about D who's in LA and that she's a huge fan of his and that she said she'd try to make it to one of his gigs in LA. He seemed genuinely pleased. :) (At least I was sane enough to remember to do that!)

So he started walking away.

And I let him.

What was wrong with me, wro-o-ong with meee?

The next group of people who stopped him asked him for photos. Why didn't I think of that? WHY?

Argh!

But thankfully, he was stuck at the spot, so we caught up with him, and asked him for a photo.
And he nicely obliged.

That should be it, right? Snap and release, but nooo (sarcastic). I HAD to ask him about the card again. Argh. Why was I so annoying?! Sigh. He said no, and insisted that he couldn't. Perhaps muttering, take a hint woman! under his breath. He didn't. But I wouldn't blame him if he did. I thought he was going to walk away again.

But you know what was the next thing he said..? :)

"I'm sorry I can't. But here, you can have this instead."

"This" turns out to be one of the sticks that he used during the performance just now.

O_O

I was floored. And he kept smiling and started walking away. I must have turned into a babbling idiot then. I hope I thanked him profusely enough. Wow.

Brendan, I've tweeted you but if you happen to be reading this, I just want to THANK YOU again for the best concert memorabilia one could ever get. It means the world to me. Thank you. Thank you. :) I wish I had better EQ and wasn't so one-track minded. I would love to have asked you about your LA gigs and your other ventures and probably chatted you up about Shakira and her involvement in The Voice as a judge this season. I would also like to know how you manage your jet lag since you seem to be traveling from LA to Asia pretty often. I would also probably ask if you like cats.. or coffee.. or if we could go for a cuppa! You were really amiable and a real sweetheart and that means a lot. I don't know if I'd ever meet you again after MM2, but if I don't... *HUGS* Thanks again. :)

With that and no other sign of Leehom magically appearing where we were, we left the concert ground and started our journey home. My adrenaline was pumping for a long time and I was gushing incoherently for a while till I cooled down. Heh! I couldn't help the tinge of sadness just because the show's over. I was really thankful for the opportunity, and the gift.

See you again, Team Music Man!

Some final not-so-random parting thoughts:
  • I wonder if his bro Leekai was there. Well, I guess he was, now that they are working together and seem to be appearing together everywhere a lot.. Hello Leekai! :) He is also new to Wb (he came on while I was away from Wb) and his nick is @leekaiinthesky which I just CAN'T read without hearing the whole Beatles line (i.e. lee kai in the sky with diamond) sung in my head. I wonder if he had meant to do that. I was really excited when I found out that he's part of his bro's team. The bond that they share is one of the things I really cherish. :)
  • Mm I still find the life of a celeb under such intense scrutiny is no small matter. Fame's not for everyone and yet craved by many. Lh was right in saying that his major regret is the lost of privacy.
  • I notice fans tend to make a remark about the obvious when they see him or when they comment on anything he says on Fb or Wb. I think he's probably immune to all the variations of "你好帅噢" (you're good looking). Is it a Chinese thing? But then again, it's been a year and I still couldn't decide on what I would say if I had the opportunity to speak to him, so I might end up stating the same too. I mean, if I had the luxury of an interview, I would have no shortage of Qs I would like to pose to him, but what if I were given one chance, and because I am not prepared, all I could blurt out would be just that! Bleh.
Finally before I go, here's the set list some kind soul on FB has noted down (which I gather is the same as the one from his MM2 tour), and here it is:
  • Opening songs: 讓開+火力全開、龍的傳人
  • 十八般武藝
  • 唯一

  • 你不知道的事、Getaran Jiwa
  • 心跳、Love Love Love
  • 美\
  • Julia、

Peace out!

me - 1, temptation - 0

Some channel is showing 戀愛通告 - the movie Leehom wrote, directed and acted in. Srsly?? I heard the name of his character (杜明漢 Du Ming Han) being called out when I went to the kitchen to get a glass of water. You can imagine how much I want to plop my bum in front of the tv right now. I'm proud to say that I dutifully went back to bed. Maybe it's cos I know I can always watch it again later. But.. I can't believe this is happening! I would like to say that I've been a good girl the past 3 days. I can't deny I've broken out in his songs a few times (this wasn't on the list of prohibition ;) but I managed pretty okay not to google or listen to his songs. Kay, shan't dwell on this. Nitez!

my Bersih 3.0 experience

i enjoy reading more than i do writing, and i've really enjoyed reading all the personal experiences of those who went (or didn't go) to Bersih last Saturday.. i don't think i have anything extra to add (other than that one other piece i wrote before this, and that it was a really good experience that I cherish) so imma just let a few of my pics do the talking :)

(a quick digression here: i failed to get the second round of Russell Peters tickets. it was just not. meant. to. beeeee.. boo hoo!)

Check list! Got it off the Internet, wrote it down in my notebook, just in case.

My Bersih kit, minus the water.

The hubs and I.. aiyor, both of us sooo chubby! ^__^

Both of us didn't have yellow shirts, so we pakat-ed to wear green instead. Thadd and I rode the bike and parked at Sri Petaling station, while Jaz parked her car at Bukit Jalil station. Took the train down to KL and stopped at Plaza Rakyat. Passed Auntie Bersih in front of Kota Raya otw to Central Market.

4 sekawan. Well, not really. Haha.. Ming Wai came alone and joined us at Central Market.. but the four of us stuck together for the entire rally. This was taken opposite Sogo, and the Bandaraya station was just down the road. It was about 3.20pm cos I remember thinking that the march would be over soon and we could just hop on the train back. But the station was crowded and so we walked around a bit. That was when we came face to face with the FRU and their their gas (pic in the blog below).

Met up with David, Melissa (behind the camera) and MJ at Central Market..  it was their second Bersih outing.. they are one very zealous family. :) MJ marched with his teachers, and the six of us walked together for a stretch, but separated at Leboh Ampang.

Along J. Tun Perak, underneath the Star LRT track.. it was hot, but the general atmosphere was good. It was the closest we got to Dataran Merdeka (it's probably about 500m down this direction). There were a lot of people and very little shade, so we decided to just keep on walking, and walking, and walking.

there were balloons floating about, mostly yellow, some green.. i remarked to jazz "best concert ever!!"
coldplay, anyone? :)

People mountain, people sea. At Central Market, around 1pm.

More people mountain, more people sea. At Leboh Ampang, probably around 2pm.
