just want to share a trailer of a movie that i would really like to catch (thanks to Leehom for the heads up ;). from its website:
Buzkashi Boys tells a compelling coming of age story that offers a glimpse of a rarely seen Afghanistan through the eyes of two of its youngest sons, as they make their way to manhood in one of the most war-torn countries on Earth.the trailer kinda reminds me of The Kite Runner, adapted from Khaled Hosseini's book of the same name, which was also set in Afghanistan. i loved that movie, and of course the book. speaking of which i must get it back (it's loaned to a friend like 4 years ago, and not returned. normally i don't keep track of book lending, but when it comes to my favorites, you bet i won't forget. i've asked for it enough times that i feel paiseh to ask again so how.. aish..)
Set against the backdrop of Buzkashi, a brutal game of horse polo played with a dead goat instead of a ball, the film follows two best friends, a street urchin and a blacksmith’s son, as they struggle to reconcile dreams with duty.
One of the first narrative films shot entirely on location in Afghanistan with a mixed Western and Afghan crew, Buzkashi Boys was produced by the Afghan Film Project, a non-profit foundation formed to tell uniquely Afghan stories while building the capacity of Afghanistan's fledgling film industry. Produced to the highest international standards, the film combines the experience of internationally recognized industry professionals with the passion of emerging local filmmakers.
[for you, a thousand times over.]
